Style 153



This suit was inspired by the 1963 Alfred Hitchcock film "The Birds" starring Tippi Hedren.

Jacket










Front shoulder darts


Back shoulder darts


Stay-stitch the front facing.


Shoulder seams


Trim the collar's seam allowance.
I graded the seam allowance to reduce bulk.


Turn the collar right side out and press.
Baste the bottom of the collar.


Ease-stitch the tops of the sleeves.


Collar and sleeves

Back lining shoulder darts


Front facing sewn to front lining.


Ease-stitch top of sleeve lining.


Shoulder seams and sleeves


Stitch back lining, leave an opening.


Stitch the sleeve lining to the sleeves, under-stitch the lining.


Stitch the jacket front and neckline.


I forgot to photograph a few steps.
Side seams
Hem
Turn right side out 
Press

Sew up the back opening.


Press up the long sides of the cuffs.


Stitch the ends
Trim the corners

Turn right side out
Press
Mark the middle of the cuff.


Hand stitch the cuffs to the sleeves.


Pocket hems


Press up the pocket seam allowances.


Hand stitch the pockets to the jacket.


Shift

Shoulder seams

Stitch the shift to the lining at the armholes and neckline.


Side seams and hem

Back seam

Sew the lining to the shift at the back opening.


Belt


Style 152

This stylish double-breasted suit has a peplum, velveteen collar and cuffs.

Jacket

Cut out the pieces separately to make sure the houndstooth pattern will match.


Back darts

Back lining darts


Stay-stitch the curves.


Stitch the fronts to the side fronts.
Press the seams open.
Clip and notch the seam allowance.


Front facing and lining


Ease-stitch the top of the sleeves


Cut 1/4" off the bottom of the sleeve lining.


Ease-stitch sleeve lining. 


Shoulder seams and sleeves


Lining


Collar

Stitch the collar to the jacket.


Stitch the sleeve lining to the bottom of the sleeves.


Stitch the lining to the jacket at the neckline.
Under-stitch the lining.


Side seams


Stitch the peplum seams.


Stitch the bottom of the peplum.


Trim the corners and seam.


Turn the peplum right side out,
Press flat.
Baste the top of the peplum.


Stitch the peplum to the bottom of the jacket.


Hand stitch the jacket front and lining.


Buttons and snaps


Press up one edge of the cuffs, make sure the nap of the cuffs are both going in the same direction.


Pin the cuff to the bottom of the sleeve.


Hand stitch the cuff to the sleeve.


Fold under the seam allowance on the ends of the cuff. 
Hand stitch the ends together 1".

Fold the top of the cuff down to make a 1" cuff.

Click here to make the skirt.
It is a little different than the instructions in the pattern.
Less hand sewing!



Pillbox Hat

Hat pieces


Gather up the edges of the hat top.


Fuse the lining to the hat top.

Fuse the interfacing and Wonder-Under to the hat crown.


Fuse the hat crown closed.


Hem one end of the crown and stitch the crown around the hat top.




Hem the other end of the crown.


Stitch the ends together.


Bow


Straw Hat

This is a small straw hat, use a hat block or ball to shape the hat.


Sew the bow to the hat over the end of the straw.
