This lovely lace suit was inspired by a 1952 Pierre Balmain design.
Jacket
Mark the darts on the jacket's underlining pieces.
Baste the lace pieces to the underlinings.
Darts
Shoulder seams
Ease-stitch the top of the sleeves.
Stitch the sleeves to the armholes.
Stitch the front linings to the front facings.
Back lining darts
Shoulder seams
Cut 1/4" off the bottom of the sleeve linings and ease-stitch the top of the sleeves.
Shoulder seams
Stitch the center back lining seam, leave an opening.
The jacket will be turned right-side out through the back opening.
Stitch the sleeves to the sleeve lining, under-stitch the seam.
Stitch the jacket fronts and neckline. Clip and trim the seam allowance.
Underarm and side seams
Stitch the bottom of the jacket and press the seam open.
Turn the jacket right-side out and press. Hand stitch the back opening closed.
Button, hook, and thread loop
Thread loop at the bottom of the sleeves
Cuffs
Sheath
Mark the skirt darts on the underlining.
Baste the lace to the underlining.
Stitch the darts.
Mark the darts on the lining and cut off the bottom of the skirt lining.
Stitch the darts.
Stitch the lining to the halter top pieces.
Trim the seam allowances.
Gather the bottoms.
Gather the halter top pieces to fit between the markings on the skirt.
Stitch the lining to the dress at the top, under-stitch the lining.
Stitch the lining to the bottom of the skirt, under-stitch the lining.
Stitch the back seam.
Turn the sheath right-side out, press.
Snaps and hook
Gather or fold the tops of the halter top.
Hook and thread loop.

Baste lace to the bodice pieces.
Bodice and lining
Stitch the lining to the halter pieces.
Tissue paper strips are recommended if using chiffon.
Turn right side out and press.
Gather the bottoms.
Stitch the halter top to the front of the bodice.
Hem the back of the skirt.
Gather
Skirt in chiffon
Underskirt
Stitch the skirt to the bodice.
Stitch the bodice lining to the bodice.
Sew silk flowers to the front of the bodice.
